The Aspidistra Elatior is native to the mountainous region of Japan and Taiwan. Here this houseplant grows as a groundcover. To its indestructible properties, it has therefore been nicknamed 'Cast Iron Plant' in English. In the Netherlands, its nickname is the quarter plant.

The Aspidistra Elatior is not poisonous! In the Far East, the leaves of the quarter plant are even used to present food on. We do advise against consuming the leaves, however.
