This way you can enjoy your Elephant ear as long as possible!

Watering Alocasia (Elephant ear)

With Wickplants, it's many times easier. How? With the unique watering system from Wickplants, your Alocasia will never again get too much or too little water. The plant takes care of itself. The Alocasia is equipped with a wick. When the houseplant is thirsty, it draws its water from the water reservoir by means of the wick. So you never have to worry about the Alocasia needing more water in summer than in winter. All you have to do is top up the water reservoir. When should I refill the water reservoir? When the red bar in the water meter starts to drop down, the water reservoir needs refilling. This way, your Alocasia gets the right amount of water, which it decides for itself!

Location of Alocasia (Elephant ear)

What else do I need to do to keep my Alocasia beautiful for as long as possible? With Wickplants, the right position is very important to enjoy your new houseplant for a long time. Watering is a thing of the past, but it needs to be in the right spot. What is the right spot for my Alocasia? This beautiful houseplant needs a bright spot without direct sunlight. In these conditions, the Elephant Ear will become a beautiful healthy plant. Should it happen that the plant grows towards the light, it does not get enough light. In this case, move the plant to a slightly lighter location. It is possible that the leaves will burn if you place the plant in direct sunlight. A spot close to the window, will ensure that this houseplant remains most beautiful and gives lots of new leaves in spring and summer!

Alocasia (Elephant ear) pruning

The Alocasia is a houseplant that shed its older leaves. The lower leaves will turn brown. You can prune these old leaves by cutting them off as close to the stem as possible. After a while, the last part of the stem, which you cannot cut off, will dry out and you can then easily remove this. By removing the old leaves, the Elephant Ear will produce new healthy leaves. You can also prune back the Alocasia when it gets too big for its spot. This can be done in the same way as removing the old leaves.

Feeding Alocasia (Elephant ear)

The soil of the Alocasia contains nutrients. After 15 weeks, the Alocasia has often used up these nutrients. After this period, the Alocasia will enjoy getting some nutrition. Take care! Only give the Alocasia some extra nutrition in spring and summer! In autumn and winter, the Alocasia is in a dormant state. Then extra feeding can even be harmful for this houseplant. So only give it extra nutrition in spring and summer!

Is the Alocasia (Elephant ear) poisonous?

The juice of the Alocasia can cause irritation on the skin. Because of this, we do not recommend consuming the Elephant ear. Also be careful when pruning the Alocasia to ensure that the sap does not get on the skin. However, the leaves of the Alocasia are used in various dishes, but this should be done properly. Also, the rhizomes of the Alocasia are considered a delicacy in Asia. This is first cooked and then eaten. We don't recommend trying this at home though!
