The Ficus Elastica Robusta is native to the tropical region of Asia. This houseplant can be recognized by its dark green leaves, which resemble rubber. At the top of this houseplant is a red plume. Its leaves resembling rubber also gave it its nickname the Indian Rubber Tree. Did you know that Ficus Elastica Robusta was an important source of rubber extraction until the 20th century?
Ficus Elastica Robusta likes a light location. The Indian Rubber Tree needs a lot of daylight to develop. Preferably, the Ficus Elastica Robusta stands in a spot near a window. Beware, however, that it does not receive too much direct sunlight during the summer period. This can make the plant feel intense and hot. In this case, move this houseplant to a position with slightly less bright sunlight.
Ficus Elastica Robusta is mildly toxic. Consuming the Indian Rubber Tree is strongly discouraged. The leaves are mildly toxic when ingested and the sap, which can come out of this houseplant, can cause skin irritation. Beware with small children and pets.
